Classical SEO targeted ranking position. Modern SEO targets multiple surfaces simultaneously: traditional blue-link results, featured snippets, knowledge panels, image and video results, and increasingly AI Overviews + chatbot citations. The biggest shift since 2023 is the rise of answer engine optimization (AEO) — optimizing content for direct extraction by AI models. AEO-optimized pages emphasize clear factual answers, structured data, and citation-friendly formatting. Pages that win AEO tend to also win classical SEO.

For B2B SaaS landing pages specifically, SEO leverage is concentrated in informational queries (how-to, what-is, definitions) and bottom-funnel queries (alternatives, comparisons, pricing). Each query type has its own page template that performs best.
